DeepMap was a Palo Alto, California-based software company that built high-definition (HD) maps and localization technology for self-driving vehicles. Founded in 2016 by former Google Maps, Apple, and Baidu engineers James Wu and Mark Wheeler, DeepMap offered a full mapping stack, including hardware tools, software, and field data collection services, that turned customer fleet sensor data into continuously updated, centimeter-accurate HD maps used for autonomous navigation. In June 2021 NVIDIA announced its acquisition of DeepMap to enhance the mapping and localization capabilities of the NVIDIA DRIVE autonomous vehicle platform; the deal closed in August 2021 on undisclosed terms.
