Deribit is a leading global cryptocurrency derivatives exchange specializing in Bitcoin, Ethereum and other crypto options and futures. Founded in 2016 in the Netherlands by John Jansen, the company relocated its operating headquarters to Dubai (under a VARA license) and provides institutional-grade trading infrastructure to professional and retail traders worldwide. Deribit holds the dominant share of the global crypto options market by open interest and volume, and processed more than $1 trillion in trading volume in 2024. In May 2025 Coinbase agreed to acquire Deribit for approximately $2.9 billion in cash and stock; the deal closed on August 14, 2025.
