Founded by Joel Ronning in 1994, it listed on Nasdaq as DRIV in 1998 and processed over US$30 billion in transactions in 2013. Siris Capital took it private in 2015 for about $840 million. Operations ceased in early 2025; subsidiary Digital River Marketing Solutions filed Chapter 7 in Delaware that May, while the parent did not file.
