Elevance Renewable Sciences is a U.S. specialty chemicals company that creates high-performance specialty chemicals from natural oils using Nobel Prize-winning olefin metathesis catalyst technology. Spun out of Cargill and Materia in 2007, Elevance produces chemical building blocks used in detergents, coatings, personal care, oil field services, agricultural chemicals, lubricants, and engineered polymers. The company historically operated a flagship 180,000 tpa biorefinery in Gresik, Indonesia as a 50/50 joint venture with Wilmar International, which began commercial shipments in 2013. In June 2020 Elevance sold its 50% stake in the Gresik JV back to Wilmar, and in February 2020 unwound a separate Malaysian biorefinery development deal with Genting Plantations. Elevance withdrew its 2011 IPO filing in 2012 after raising additional private capital.
