Food52

Brooklyn, New York, United States Media Acquired

Food52 is a US food and home-focused digital media and e-commerce company founded in 2009 by former New York Times food journalists Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs. Built on a content-to-commerce model, it combines recipes, cooking and home editorial, a community platform, and an online shop selling cookware, kitchen tools, and home goods (including its own Five Two brand and the Dansk and Schoolhouse brands acquired over time). The Chernin Group / TCG Capital Management took a majority stake in 2019 and invested a reported ~$163 million, valuing the company at roughly $300 million in 2021. After significant revenue declines, the company laid off staff and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and in February 2026 its assets were broken up and sold at a Delaware bankruptcy auction: the core Food52 media brand was acquired by America's Test Kitchen (F52 LLC, an affiliate of Marquee Brands) for ~$9.9 million, while Schoolhouse went to Hudson Valley Lighting Group's Troy-CSL and Dansk to Form Portfolios.
