FreedomPop was a Los Angeles-based mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) founded in 2011 by Stephen Stokols and Steven Sesar. It pioneered a 'freemium' wireless model offering free basic voice, text and data plans subsidized by paid premium upgrades and add-ons. The company operated on Sprint and AT&T networks in the US and expanded to the UK, Spain and other markets. In June 2019, FreedomPop sold its retail MVNO business, brand and customer base to Red Pocket Mobile; the remaining entity pivoted to a B2B SaaS platform for telecom digital transformation.
