Gemini Therapeutics was a clinical-stage precision medicine biotech developing genetically-targeted therapies for dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and rare genetic diseases. Founded in 2015 in Cambridge, Massachusetts and incubated by Atlas Venture, Lightstone Ventures and OrbiMed, Gemini's lead program, GEM103, was a recombinant human complement factor H protein designed to address complement dysregulation in AMD patients with genetic variants in the CFH gene. Gemini went public via a SPAC merger with Foresite Capital-sponsored FS Development Corp. in February 2021 (Nasdaq: GMTX), raising approximately $216 million in gross proceeds. Following disappointing Phase 2a results for GEM103 in geographic atrophy, the company pursued strategic alternatives and announced an all-stock merger with privately-held Disc Medicine in August 2022. The merger closed on December 29, 2022, with the combined company operating as Disc Medicine, Inc. (Nasdaq: IRON), pivoting the platform's focus to hematologic disease therapeutics.
