Ginger was a San Francisco-based on-demand virtual mental healthcare company that delivered behavioral health coaching, therapy, and psychiatry services through a smartphone app. Spun out of the MIT Media Lab in 2011, Ginger served employers and health plans, combining text-based coaching with licensed therapists and psychiatrists. In August 2021, Ginger announced a merger with meditation app Headspace to form Headspace Health (later rebranded Headspace), a combined digital mental health company valued at approximately $3 billion at deal close.
