Rockset

San Mateo, CA, USA Data Infrastructure Acquired

Rockset was a real-time analytics database that enabled companies to automatically ingest data from databases and cloud storage and index it for low-latency search, analytics, and AI applications. Founded in 2016 by ex-Facebook engineers Venkat Venkataramani and Tudor Bosman with database architect Dhruba Borthakur (who led the RocksDB project at Facebook), Rockset offered a cloud-native, serverless platform with a converged index combining row, column, and search indexes. The company raised approximately $117.5 million from Sequoia, Greylock, Icon Ventures, Glynn Capital, and others before being acquired by OpenAI in June 2024 to power OpenAI's retrieval infrastructure across its products.
