Salesforce Industries (formerly Vlocity) is the industry-specific cloud and mobile software business unit of Salesforce, delivering vertical CRM solutions for communications, media, energy, utilities, insurance, health, government, and financial services. Founded in 2014 by David Schmaier and a team of enterprise software veterans, Vlocity built industry-specific applications natively on the Salesforce Platform, layering omnichannel processes, data models, and product catalogs tailored to regulated and complex industries. The company raised approximately $163 million across three rounds from investors including Sutter Hill Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, Accenture, Bessemer Venture Partners, and New York Life Ventures, reaching a $1 billion valuation at its March 2019 Series C. On February 25, 2020, Salesforce announced a definitive agreement to acquire Vlocity in an all-cash deal valued at approximately $1.33 billion, closing in mid-2020. Vlocity was rebranded as Salesforce Industries and David Schmaier was named CEO of the business unit, later rising to President and Chief Product Officer and subsequently President and Chief Strategy Officer of Salesforce.
