Shiok Meats

Singapore Food & Agriculture Acquired

Shiok Meats was a Singapore-based cellular agriculture company founded in 2018 by Sandhya Sriram and Ka Yi Ling, focused on producing cell-cultivated crustaceans including shrimp, lobster, and crab. The company pioneered cell-based seafood research in Asia and was the first cell-cultivated meat startup ever backed by Y Combinator. In March 2024, Shiok Meats announced a share-for-share merger with fellow Singaporean cultivated-seafood startup UMAMI Bioworks, with the combined entity retaining the UMAMI Bioworks name and led by CEO Mihir Pershad. The merger closed in 2024.
