SMS Assist was a Chicago-based, cloud-based multi-site property and facilities maintenance technology company. Its proprietary platform connected commercial and residential property owners with a national network of more than 20,000 certified affiliate subcontractors for janitorial, repair, and maintenance services. The platform offered vendor management, logistics planning, real-time work order tracking, predictive modeling and electronic invoicing across more than 90,000 client locations. Founded by Mike Rothman, the company reached unicorn status in 2016 after raising $150M from Goldman Sachs Investment Partners, and was acquired by Lessen in January 2023 in what was described as the largest proptech merger to date.
