Solestial is an Arizona State University spin-out (formerly Regher Solar) that makes radiation-resistant ultrathin silicon solar cells and flexible solar modules for spacecraft. Its cells self-cure radiation damage under sunlight at temperatures as low as 65 degrees C, a lower-cost, faster-to-produce alternative to traditional III-V (gallium arsenide) space solar cells. It runs a 30,000+ sq ft cell and module plant in Tempe, Arizona, opened in 2023 and scaling toward 1 MW per year. York Space Systems (NYSE: YSS) closed its acquisition of Solestial on June 4, 2026; it now operates as a wholly owned subsidiary serving external customers.
