Unbabel
Unbabel is a Portuguese AI language operations platform combining machine translation with human post-editing for enterprise multilingual customer service and localization. Founded in 2013 in Lisbon by Vasco Pedro, Joao Graca, Sofia Pessanha, Hugo Silva, and Bruno Prezado Silva, it built TowerLLM, a large language model purpose-built for translation. TransPerfect acquired Unbabel's business in August 2025 and runs it as a division. The original Portuguese entity was declared insolvent by Lisbon's commercial court in March 2026, and creditors voted unanimously in July 2026 to liquidate it.
